The Thracians inhabited the eastern half of the Balkan Peninsula in antiquity, and the oldest information we have on them is to be found in Homer's epics. During the Trojan War, described in the Iliad, they were the European allies of Troy and of King Priamus, along with all the other peoples who inhabited the shores of the Aegean Sea in Asia Minor. This is how the land-bound group of peoples and tribes who fought the seafaring Achaeans is presented in the Greek epic.
